We use IT for one animal or one thing.

  1. That is a carabao. It is big.
  2. This is my new book. It has stories inside.

We use THEY for more than one animal, person or thing.

  1. Those are birds. They are flying.
  2. These are my pets. They are puppies.

We use HE for a boy:

  1. Mark is playing. He has a ball.
  2. Jim is reading a book. He is in the library.

We use SHE for a girl:

  2. Jamie is riding a bike. She is happy.
