Lesson 11

In comparing fractions, use the following symbols:

> means is greater than

< means is less than

= means is equal to

A fractional part becomes smaller as a whole is divided into more parts.

Lesson 12

In arranging fractions with the same denominator, the bigger the numerator, the greater the fraction.

In arranging fractions with the same numerator, the bigger the denominator, the lesser the fraction.

Lesson 9

A fraction also names a part of a set or a group.

Lesson 10

When the numerator is equal to the denominator, the fraction is equal to one whole or 1.

Lesson 7

Solving word problems involves answering the following questions:

1. What are given?

2. What is asked?

3. What will be done to solve the problem?

4. What is the number sentence?

The answers to these questions should lead us to these next steps:

5. Show the solution to the problem.

6. Write the final answer with the correct label.

Lesson 8

A fraction names a part or parts of a whole that is divided into equal parts.

Mathematics: Division by 5 and 10

Mathematics, The Son No Comments

Lesson 5

Dividing by 5 is just like finding how many groups of 5 there are in a number or in a set.

Lesson 6

Dividing by 10 is like finding how many groups of 10 there are in a number or in a set.

Mathematics: Division is Inverse Multiplication

Lesson 3

  • Multiplication and division are related.
  • Division is the inverse of multiplication.
  • When we write 5 X 6 = 30 and 5 X 6 = 30, the inverse is written as 30 ÷ 6 = 5 and 30 ÷ 5 = 6, respectively.

Lesson 4

Dividing numbers by 2 is the same as grouping into 2s or finding how many sets of 2 there are in all.

Mathematics: Division

Lesson 1

  • Division means grouping objects equally.
  • The division sentence tells us how many equal groups of objects there are.
  • The dividend is the total number of objects.
  • The divisor is the number of objects in each group.
    • The quotient is the number of equal groups. It is the answer in division.

Lesson 2

  • Division is also repeated subtraction.
  • Repeated subtraction means subtracting the same number as many times as needed until a difference of 0 is reached.
    • It also involves finding out how many equal groups there will be if we keep o subtracting the same number.
