Number Sense and Numeration
Pictograph
A pictograph uses pictures or symbols to represent information. We write a legend at the bottom of the graph to indicate the number of quantity each picture or symbol represents.
Half of a picture or symbol represents half the number of a given quantity.
Weight/Mass
The gram (m) is used to measure the weight of light objects.
The kilogram (kg) is used to measure the weight of heavy objects.
There are 1000 grams in 1 kilogram
Length, Height and Distance
Length answers the question “How long?”
Width answers the question “How wide?”
Height answers the question “How high?” or “How tall?”
Distance answers the question “How far?”
We use the same unit of measure to compare lengths, widths, heights and distances accurately.
The length, width, and height of small objects are measured in centimeters.
We write cm for centimeter.
The length, width, and height of large objects, and long distances are measured in meters.
We write m for meter.
The Calendar
There are 7 days in a week.
There are 4 weeks in a month.
There are 30 days in a month.
There are 12 months in a year.
There are 365 days in one ordinary year and 366 days in a leap year.
Telling Time
There are sixty minutes in 1 hour.
A complete turn of the long hand or the minute hand is equal to 60 minutes or 1 hour.
The minute hand moves faster than the hour hand.

Different Ways of Telling Time
Quarter to means 15 minutes before the next hour.
Quarter past means 15 minutes past or after the hour.
Half past means 30 minutes past or after the hour.

Lines of Symmetry
A line of symmetry divides a shape and a figure into two equal parts.
If a shape can be folded or divided into two equal parts, then it has symmetry.
