The following are the guidelines for the suspension/cancellation of classes should there be a typhoon in the country, as per DepEd Order number 28 series of 2005 according to Education Secretary Br. Armin Luistro FSC:
Signal #1 raised by PAGASA (Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical & Astronomical Administration): classes in pre-school are automatically suspended in affected areas.
Signal #2: classes from preschool, elementary and high school are automatically suspended in affected areas.
In the case of heavy rains but without any signals, the school principal, division superintendent or local government executive (mayors) may decide to cancel the classes.

August 30 is a non-working holiday. August 30 is National Heroes’ Day and it falls on a Monday, hence, it is a non-working holiday.
This is timely for us who have our first trimester examinations an that week, we have an extra day to review past lessons.

August 23, 2010 has been declared as a holiday last year in observance of the Ninoy Aquino Day on August 21.
This moved date however, has been declared otherwise because:
“The purpose for observing Ninoy Aquino Day on August 21 instead of August 23 is to avoid the imposition of unnecessary financial burden upon the employers,… business, and commercial transaction, promote productivity, while at the same time preserve the solemnity of the observance,” as released in the Palace statement.
I agree with this because moving the holidays on another day is not only counter-productive to some business but it sows confusion to the school children who are still getting an understanding about this country.
June 12 is Independence Day but holiday is observed on another day is not exactly how we teach the children.
Good thing Maundy Thursday, Good Friday and Black Saturdays have day names or else…
