Elementary School Lessons

Every Saturday, participants post photos based on a theme. The theme for this Saturday, March 29, 2008 is HIGH. I have a photo that represents the word high differently.

Congratulations to the home schooled students of CFA for their Graduation and Moving Up Day yesterday, March 28, 2008. We started the event with a Holy Mass. Below is a photo of the son on stage as he recited “Where Go the Boats” a poem by Robert Louis Stevenson.

At first I was doubting if he has enough guts to recite a poem on stage because it was my idea to volunteer that he will do an intermission number for this program. My goal was to see if he is up to the challenge to speak in front of strangers. He didn’t disappoint us and the moment seem so fast it was over in seconds 😀 That gave us a different kind of “high”. We are proud of you, son 🙂 (Sorry the photo is a little blurred, that was taken from the pc because that was from a video).

Anyone remembers those educational TV shows like Epol Apple where Kuya Bodjie, formerly of Batibot, becomes Porfirio who talks to and teaches children in alternating Filipino and English? Or Bayani where the ABS-CBN talents portray the different Filipino heroes in shows like mini-series? What about Math-Tinik where there children learn about Math concepts through playing? Hiraya Manawari where Filipino values are being taught?

I remember one time we were at a McDonald’s outlet and there was this little boy who kept on looking at the nearby table. He wanted to go to that particular table and curious me, I had to just look. There was Kuya Bodjie, on that nearby table and the little boy, a fan of Epol Apple was able to recognize him. Talk about being able to see someone you just watch on TV in person, sitting next to you. The boy was very happy to see him. I remember too my niece (my late cousin’s daughter) who told me that they watch these TV shows IN SCHOOL, depending on the schedule. If the Math Tinik show is for Intermediate level, they watch, but if its for Primary level, the younger ones watch.

These are wonderful shows imparting great values as well as educational concepts being taught. So where have these TV shows are now?

Karapatan ng Batang Pilipino (Rights of the Filipino Child)

Bawat batang Pilipino ay may mga karapatan na dapat pahalagahan, pagyamanin at pag-ingatan.

1. Karapatang maisilang at mabigyan ng pangalan. Right to be born and be given a name.

2.Karapatan maging malakas at malusog. Right to be strong and healthy.

3. Karapatan mong mabigyan ng maayos na tahanan. Right to an abode.

4.Karapatang tumira sa isang malinis, maayos at ligtas na kapaligiran. Right to live in a clean, peaceful, and safe environment.

5.Karapatang makapag-aral. Right to education.

6.Karapatang maglibang. Right to play.

7.Karapatang malinang ang angking talino. Right to enhance talents and interests.

8.Karapatang magkaroon ng pamilyang mag-aaruga. Right to have a caring family.

9.Karapatang matuto nang mabuting ugali at magandang-asal. Right to learn proper and good behavior.

10. Karapatang ipagtanggol at matulungan ng pamahalaan. Right to be supported by the government.

Igalang ang karapatan ng iba.

The following are some of the heroes who fought for the Philippine Independence during the time when the country was colonized by the Spaniards.

• Dr. Jose Rizal – the national hero who fought with the Spanish authorities by way of his writing about the abuses of the Spanish authorities. Some of his writings are Noli me Tangere and El Filibusterismo
• Andres Bonifacio – considered the “Father of Katipunan”, the revolutionary group who rose against the Spaniards.
• Emilio Jacinto – the “Brains of the Katipunan”
• Melchora Aquino – known as “Tandang Sora” (Old Sora), she helped the wounded revolutionaries
• Gregorio del Pilar – “Hero of Tirad Pass”, the youngest general known to be courageous.
• Lapu-lapu – the first ever Philippine hero who fought the Spaniards when they arrived to the Philippines. He was said to be the one who killed Ferdinand Magellan.
• Apolonario Mabini – “Sublime Paralytic”
• GOMBURZA – the three martyr priests
• Manuel Luis Quezon – “Father of National Language” who promoted the Filipino language as the national language.
