This is the entrance gate of Sunlight Resort. As we can see, it is quite busy with cars coming in after others went in.

The two younger kids had a great time playing with their toys when the photo was taken. They were savoring the last days of summer vacation during the time the photo was taken.

First Day of School Checklist

From the Teacher, Homeschoolers No More 1 Comment

First day of school checklist:

  • covered all 19 textbooks with plastic cover. #backbreakingtask
  • checked and re-checked used, barely used, left over school supplies to be used for this school year’s list
  • uniforms are ready till tomorrow’s classes which means I have to iron Gala uniforms tomorrow for the rest of the week (gah!)
  • listed down things we forgot to purchase like more envelopes and folders (we still have a few unused and more barely used), more plastic envelopes, toothbrushes and combs for health kit
  • school subjects, names of teachers and names of the children written on the notebooks (opted for handwritten tags instead of printed ones)

Go to sleep now because I have to wake up at 4am to prepare packed lunch.

Goodbye summer vacation! You will be sorely missed.

Are You Ready for the New Schoolyear?

From the Teacher, Homeschoolers No More 2 Comments

School year 2011 – 2012 is fast approaching. For the homeschoolers no more, we only have two weeks left of our summer (now rainy) vacation left.

The children have been enrolled and now we face the task of getting the school supplies needed for the school year.

At the start of the summer vacation, I managed to go over the school supplies that the children used and saved several things like pencils, erasers, papers, pencil cases and unused art materials. I gathered these together and put them in a big plastic tub together with the other supplies we have accumulated through the years.

Since the school give us a list of what we need to bring, we more or less have an idea what we would need.

The list would include:

  • a sleeping mat for the third grader (this was the same sleeping mattress that the high schooler used when she was in Grades 1 -3) since the children up to third grade have nap time during noon
  • health kit which includes soap, face towel, a roll of tissue paper, toothpaste and toothbrush (we already have the plastic boxes from last year and we will just re-use with new supplies inside)
  • school supplies like art materials in plastic envelopes (the unused art materials have been saved so these can still be used)
  • uniforms have been “whitened” during summer for use when school opening comes
  • shoes have yet to be shined and cleaned (the son will still use his since the shoes are a size bigger and this goes for the high schooler, the youngest daughter has a new pair)
  • bags still need to be cleaned (high schooler got a new bag hurrah! since she alternately use backpacks she’d have since 4th and 5th grade and had no bag upgrade ever since)

I still need to look at the used books and see which ones can still be used (to think I had given some away at the start of summer!) . We have to buy books this school year and this is a bit of a burden with us who have three children. For as long as my eldest child had been enrolled in the school (this is her 11th year in the school) school books have been included in the miscellaneous fee. Now we have to pay for the books separately. Sigh…

Are you parents ready for the new school year?

In a way, we’re not ready yet but we do have a certain excitement in meeting new challenges and in the chance of doing better this school year.

3rd Trimester Exams

From the Teacher No Comments

Dear Kids,

3rd Trimester Exams are coming up next week and I am jittery. Teacher Mom gets stressed and demands more from the three of you.

As I’ve said, you only got several days to go before summer vacation starts and it is important to concentrate more for the last batch of exams, the third trimester exams after that big school production where you, my son has a role. Yey for that!

I know you are all tired. We all are. We have been waking up very early since June, me at quarter past 4am and you at around 5am to prepare for school. You are all tired from going home late too, about 6pm. Sometimes one of you almost falls asleep while eating or not once had one of you went to bed with hair slightly damp from your bath.

I know this isn’t healthy and your young bodies are craving for long hours of sleep. I do too. And I feel sad when I think about this.

Knowing that this school year is about to end in a few days, you will perhaps miss the action once you get bored with summer vacation.

So I suggest you give those books and notes some loving by reading them before you all part ways to keep yourself occupied and banish the thoughts of missing your classmates for a two months.

Time surely flies when you are having fun, isn’t it? From crazy hectic to super fun playtime with friends, I know this school year was, still is as of this time, one of the best you’ve ever had in terms of meeting new friends, learning new concepts and ideas and trying new things.

Oh yes, I know, my patience has been tested time and time again and I know you underwent a lot of stresses too. After all these things, we look back and learn and laugh from our mistakes.

You, on the other hand, will try to do better next school year and have as much fun as you can, as long as you are still young. Isn’t it what the school wants you to do? enjoy your childhood for you are children for a short time and you should enjoy these years.

As for me, I want you to enjoy being children and learn not just the academics but the smarts to help you become the best that you all could be.

I love you all.

Love, Tiger Mom, XOXO

I have been meaning to post at least a photo or a short article about the time the 4th grader did a reporting in front of the class. Yes, I was there to take photos! Such as I was there during his educational field trip as a chaperone.

Talk about being a mamarazzi huh?

The son wanted to use the laptop for his presentation for his report on Central Visayas but we said no, he has to do the traditional way. He was particularly proud to show their photos in Bohol, home province of hubby’s family where they sometimes spend summer vacations. Bohol is a part of his report.

The report went well I think. I sat at the back of the room and never uttered a word nor moved an inch since it was my son’s moment.

The children went ga-ga over the many souvenirs he gave away like key chains and bracelets. These were given to those who listened well and answered his questions correctly. The classmates also loved the food samples from these provinces that he distributed.

More photos on this soon. I hope.
