The Solar System: Grade 2 Science project

The Solar System

The Solar System, our Solar system consists of eight planets revolving around the Sun. Each planet has its own satellites or moon. There are also minor planets, meteoroids and comets that can be seen in the Solar System.

Waking Up Early for School

From the Teacher, Homeschoolers No More, Lunch Box Ideas No Comments

My children are up before the sun is up. They HAVE to wake up at 5am (half an hour earlier for the oldest child) to get ready for school. There are days that there’s no more time for breakfast, just a quick drink of warm milk or a few spoonfuls of oatmeal before the school service goes beep-beeping.

More often than not, they just bring their breakfast with them to school. Sometimes they bring sandwiches or oatmeal. And fruits and/or milk. Plus other food I’ve prepared for them.

They have to be in bed around 8 – 8:30 pm. And while they are sleeping, I have to get their stuff ready: uniforms for the next day and snacks to bring. I also check on their bags to see if they have extra shirts to use and/or all their school stuff are inside.

I want to say I can’t wait for summer which means I don’t have to wake up at 4:00 everyday but that would mean 3 bored and hungry kids in the house.

Skipped School

From the Teacher, Grade 2 Lessons, Younger Daughter No Comments

With the flu hopping around and making people sick these days, I had to have my youngest daughter skip school today because she has not been feeling well herself. No high fever but she seems to be lethargic and does not seem to sleep well. Appetite is good though so it means she is not that sick.  I really hope so.

She reports though that there were several students in school with chicken pox. I hope there’s not going to be an outbreak in the school as what happened last year. Ack!

So, here are ways on how to increase the immune level and be healthier and prevent these viruses and bacteria from making us sick.

Boy Scout Goes A-camping

Enrichment, Grade 4, Homeschoolers No More, The Son, Weekends No Comments

My Boy Scout is going camping today. The scouts will have an over night camping. I’ve already prepped the things he will bring and hubby was shocked to see how much food I prepared: several brick boxes of milk, water bottles, bananas, a small loaf of bread, cookies, biscuits and even a can of pork and beans.

I also put several clothes to last him several days.

He is bringing a tent and a sleeping bag. His contribution to the group are several bags of charcoal for cooking.

I wanted to bring him to his pulmonologist first before the camping but we didn’t have time to visit the doctor. I hope he won’t have an asthma attack though he brought his inhaler with him, as he always does.

Back to School After the Holidays

From the Teacher No Comments

It’s back to school tomorrow for the children. It is doubly hard to prep them to go back to the routine after the holidays. I had to find ways to make them go to bed after 8:30am two nights before classes started.

Here are some ways we prepared before going back to school after the holidays:

  • go to bed at the same time they are used to when there are classes. For us it was between 8pm – 8:30pm. Do this even if they don’t feel sleepy yet.
  • Wake them up earlier than the time they usually wake up. For us, wake up call was around 8am which is kinds late because they usually wake up at 5am during school days.
  • Have them prepare their school things a day or two before going back to school.

I will see how they will be tomorrow. For now, we will just enjoy the last day of our holiday break 🙂
