1 Point to Qualify

From the Teacher, Grade 4, Homeschoolers No More, Mathematics No Comments

He lost the semi-finals round by 1 point.

Last Monday was my son’s first time to join a math quiz bee elimination round, he got in third place for the top ten highest scores.

Then today, he got the highest score for the five students who will vie for the final two slots.

Among the five, he scored the third highest, missing a point to tie with the second placer. Oh well,  I guess it’s not meant to be that he compete in the Math Quiz Bee.

Of course I’m disappointed but my hubby, who is ever so objective, pointed out that he probably wasn’t concentrated on the quiz details because he was torn between going to a BSP 4 day camp starting tomorrow (which he isn’t sure he is going to attend just in case he gets to compete in the Math quiz bee) and attending a Saturday rehearsal for the Drama Club’s yearly big production.

So I guess, being a former homeschooler, he didn’t do bad. Though he could have done better.

Classroom Reporter

I have been meaning to post at least a photo or a short article about the time the 4th grader did a reporting in front of the class. Yes, I was there to take photos! Such as I was there during his educational field trip as a chaperone.

Talk about being a mamarazzi huh?

Class reporter

The son wanted to use the laptop for his presentation for his report on Central Visayas but we said no, he has to do the traditional way. He was particularly proud to show their photos in Bohol, home province of hubby’s family where they sometimes spend summer vacations. Bohol is a part of his report.

The report went well I think. I sat at the back of the room and never uttered a word nor moved an inch since it was my son’s moment.

The children went ga-ga over the many souvenirs he gave away like key chains and bracelets. These were given to those who listened well and answered his questions correctly. The classmates also loved the food samples from these provinces that he distributed.

More photos on this soon. I hope.

Boy Scout Goes A-camping

Enrichment, Grade 4, Homeschoolers No More, The Son, Weekends No Comments

My Boy Scout is going camping today. The scouts will have an over night camping. I’ve already prepped the things he will bring and hubby was shocked to see how much food I prepared: several brick boxes of milk, water bottles, bananas, a small loaf of bread, cookies, biscuits and even a can of pork and beans.

I also put several clothes to last him several days.

He is bringing a tent and a sleeping bag. His contribution to the group are several bags of charcoal for cooking.

I wanted to bring him to his pulmonologist first before the camping but we didn’t have time to visit the doctor. I hope he won’t have an asthma attack though he brought his inhaler with him, as he always does.
